Community Connections
“Leave Your Mark” Community Mural
Saturday, August 10, 1:30–4:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 13, 2:45–5:15 p.m.
Capacity: 50 people
You don’t even have to leave the Greater Columbus Convention Center to leave a lasting mark on our community. Join us in adding your part to a collaborative mural that will beautify the Reeb Avenue Center. Anyone can participate, regardless of artistic ability or experience. All the supplies and instruction you need will be waiting for you when you get here. Take part in creating a meaningful gift for a community center that supports families and youth in need and help show these local residents that we care to invest in them.
Serve, Honor, and Get to Know our Nation’s Veterans
Saturday, August 10
1:30–4:00 p.m.
Capacity: 50 people
Spend a meaningful day honoring America’s veterans. Travel with us to the beautiful and awe-inspiring National Veterans Memorial and Museum. You’ll have a chance to tour the museum and take in the stirring stories of the veterans it honors before joining a group of local vets and connecting with them while working together to fill care packages for other veterans in need. It’s a time for reverence, a chance to interface, and an opportunity to serve those who serve us.
Bowling for Recovery
Tuesday, August 13
2:45–5:15 p.m.
Capacity: 30 people
Consider using your volunteer time at ASAE this year to stay socially engaged. You can always learn information by reading an article. But you can only truly gain the insight you need to empathize when you spend time with a person who walks in different shoes. A partnership of Central Ohio agencies that serve people who are struggling with addiction will organize a bowling event that allows casual, face-to-face interaction between conference attendees and warriors of recovery. You’ll get to know an important perspective, and your bowling partners will have a chance to celebrate their story—an important part of their journey to recovery.
Donations to Contribute to the Gifts of Kindness Fund
These Community Connection experiences were designed to be interactive, impactful and meaningful to the attendees. The participating organizations are well funded—they only need the donation of time. Therefore, donations will contribute to the Columbus Foundation’s Gifts of Kindness Fund in order to make the most impact in the Columbus Community. The fund helps local families with emergency needs by providing one-time, life-changing grants to lift up individuals and families who have experienced an unforeseen setback and have immediate financial need. The goal is not only to provide financial support, but to illustrate how acts of kindness throughout our community make a difference—and inspire others to do the same.
